You Can Count on Arthur’s Automotive for a New Water Pump

That’s right! You can count on Arthur’s Automotive if your car, truck, or UV needs a new water pump. The factory pump is designed to last about 10 years. In terms of mileage, this equates to 100,000 miles. The pump may be going bad without you realizing it, which is why we recommend you visually inspect the pump occasionally to make sure it is okay. If you have any of the following problems, it’s time for a new water pump in your cooling system.

A Rusting Pump

One of the problems that tends to go unnoticed is a slow leak in the water pump. As the coolant seeps out of the pump, it starts rusting it. Unfortunately, this slow leak can turn into a big one quickly because the corrosion will eat through the metal. If you inspect your water pump and see corrosion on it, we recommend that you bring your vehicle to our shop so we can replace it.

Leaking Coolant

If you don’t know that the pump is corroded, you will have a larger leak before you know it. One day, you may back out of the garage and see coolant on the garage floor. Unfortunately, this leak is large enough to affect the engine’s temperature. Your engine will run hotter than normal. It’s important to have the water pump replaced as soon as possible if this is the case.

Poor Circulation

Your water pump may never develop a leak, but it may start to reduce the circulation of the coolant through the engine. If you think about this in human terms, the water pump becomes the heart and the coolant becomes the blood. People with heart problems have difficulties with their blood circulation. Water pump problems create difficulties with coolant circulation.

Growling Sounds

You may not take too kindly to your engine growling at you when you fire it up, but don’t take it personally. The engine isn’t growling; the water pump is. This is a sign that the pump is wearing down. The internal mechanisms inside of the pump may start to grind against each other.

Overheating Engine

Finally, all of the above are going to leave you with one problem: An overheating engine. Unfortunately, your engine will overheat just once or twice. Rather, it will overheat every time you fire it up.

Call Arthur’s Automotive in Portland, OR, today if your vehicle is showing signs that the water pump needs to be replaced.
